How to Understand Question Tags

Question Tags are used in asking a question, already has information, but wants to be confirmed. (Helping verb+ subject/ helping verb + not+ subject)

  • Question tags are always in the same Tense as the verb in the statement/sentence.
  • It is a Separated statement by a comma.
  • At the end of a sentence question mark(?) use  An example-He is going to market, isn’t?

1. PRESENT INDEFINITE TENSE

I study every day, don’t I?   मैं अध्धयन करता हूँ ,न ?

I do not study every day, do I?

He studies every day, doesn’t he?

He does not study every day, does he?

She doesn’t study every day, does she?

She studies every day, doesn’t she?

2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE 

I am reading, am I not?      मैं पढ़ रहा हूँ ,न ?

I am not reading, am I?

We are reading now, aren’t we?

We are not reading, are we?

He is reading now, isn’t he?

He is not reading now, is he?

She is reading now, isn’t she?

She is not reading now, is she?

3. PRESENT PERFECT TENSE 

I have already finished work, haven’t I?    मैंने काम समाप्त कर दिया हैं ,न ?

I have not finished work, have I?

She has finished work, hasn’t she?

She has not finished work, has she?

They have done his work, haven’t they?

They have not done his work, have they?

4. PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

I have not been working since morning, have I?  मैं सुबह से काम करता रहा हूँ ,न ?

I have been working since morning, haven’t I?

She has been reading books for five days, hasn’t she?

She has not been reading a book for five days, has she?

1. PAST INDEFINITE TENSE 

I went yesterday, didn’t I?   मैं कल गया था ,न ?

I did not go yesterday, did I?

We went yesterday, didn’t we?

We did not go yesterday, did we?

She went yesterday, didn’t she?

She did not go yesterday, did she?

2. PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE 

I was reading when she came, wasn’t I? जब वह आयी ,तब मैं पठ रहा था ,न ?

I was not reading when she came, was I? 

They were reading, weren’t they?

They were not reading, were they?

She was reading, wasn’t she?

She was not reading, was she?

3. PAST PERFECT TENSE

I had done my work, hadn’t I?   मैंने अपना काम कर दिया था,न ?

I had not done my work, had I?

You had done your work, hadn’t you?

You had not done your work, had you?

She had done her work, hadn’t she?

She had not done her work, had she?

4. PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

I had been doing work since morning, hadn’t I?  मैं सुबह से काम करता रहा था ,न ?

I had not been doing work since morning, had I?

He had been doing work for five days, hadn’t he?

He had not been doing work for five days, had he?

FUTURE TENSE

I shall go tomorrow, shan’t l? मैं कल जाऊंगा ,न ?

I shall not go tomorrow, shall I?

He will go tomorrow, won’t he?

He will not go tomorrow, will he?

I would go if the teacher asked me, wouldn’t I?

I would not go if the teacher asked me, would I?

OTHER SENTENCE  -Question Tags 

I can do this work, can’t I?  मैं इस काम को कर सकता हूँ ,न ?

I can not do this work, can I?

We should go there, shouldn’t we?

We should not go there, should we?

There is a book in the room, isn’t there?

There is no book in the room, is there?

You must have told me, mustn’t you?

Your car is in good condition, isn’t it?

My home is right by the park, isn’t it?

Let us go to market, shall we?  बाजार चले,न ?

Let’s go to market, shall we?

Let’s have a cup of coffee, shall be/shall we?

Let’s take our lunch, shall be/shall we?
