INTRODUCTION
1. The plural of nouns is generally formed by adding-s to the singular, as
Boy- boys girl-girls
Pen-pens desk-desks
Book-books cow-cows
2. Nouns ending in s, sh, ch or x formed the plural by adding es to the singular .as
Class- classes, box-boxes .
Brush-brushes, match-matches.
Branch-branches, tax-taxes.
Dish-dishes, watch-watches.
3. Most of the noun ending in (अंत में )–o formed the plural by adding es to the singular, as
Buffalo-buffaloes Hero-heroes
Mango-mangoes Potato-potatoes
Volcano-volcanoes.
4. Few nouns ending in –o formed the plural by adding s to the singular .as
Dynamo-dynamos, piano-pianos.
Memento-mementos , kilo- kilos.
Ratio-ratios , logo-logos.
Photo-photos , commando-commandos .
5. Nouns ending by –y, preceded by a consonant, form their plural by changing – y into – i and adding -es. as (संज्ञा के अंत में y रहे तो i में बदल कर es जोड़ कर plural बनाया जाता हैं| )
Baby –babies, story-stories
Army-armies, city-cities
Lady-ladies, pony-ponies. (small horse )
6.Nouns ending by –f /fe changing into v and adding –es . as (संज्ञा के अंत में f/fe रहे तो v में बदल कर es जोड़ कर plural बनाया जाता हैं | )
Thief –thieves, calf-calves.
Life-lives, knife –knives.
Half-halves, wolf –wolves.
Wife-wives, leaf –leaves.
7. Few nouns form their plural, as
Man –men, woman –women.
Goose-geese (a bird-like large duck)
Mouse –mice, foot –feet.
Louse- lice (small insect living in the human /animal body.
Tooth-teeth.
8. Some nouns are used only in the plural.
(Name of instruments which have two parts forming kind of pair, as
Bellows( some type of musical instrument ), scissors, tongs (a tool with two parts that are joint at one end, used for holding things) spectacles, pincers(a tool made of two crossed pieces of metal uses in pulling out of nails from woods.
Name of some dress . as
Trousers, drawers,(a piece of furniture such as a desk) breeches,(short trousers/pants)
jeans, shirts, pajamas.
9. Some plural forms of nouns used always in the singular form.
As-News, billiards, mathematics.
physics,measles,mumps,rickets.
10. Many nouns keep their plural form, as
Erratum –errata (mistake in book/print )
Index –indices (a list of name of topics in the book )
Radius –radii.
Formula-formulae/formulas.
Memorandum –memoranda (report of a particular subject of a person )
Terminus-termini/terminuses .(end of railways line/ bus route )
Madam /madame-mesdames.
Ox –oxen.
