Determiners in English grammar
DETERMINERS– A Determiner is a group of words that are used at the beginning of noun /noun phrases.
Example– a,an,the,this,that,each,either, several, more, both, another etc…
1.Singular countable noun ke pahle use hota hai-
A/An – एक(a book, an egg)
Each – प्रत्येक (each girl)
Every – प्रत्येक / हर एक( every boy)
Either – दोनों में कोई एक(either pen)
Neither – दोनों में कोई नहीं(neither bike)
One – एक (one book)
Another – दूसरा (another man)
2.Plural countable noun ke pahle use hota hai –
Both – दोनों (both boys, both girls)
Few – कुछ/ थोड़ा सा (few things)
A few – कुछ / थोड़ी संख्या में(a few people)
Many – बहुत ( many cups)
Several अनेक / बहुत( several boxes)
Various – विभिन्न / विविध (various things)
These – ये सब / लोग(these boys)
Those – वे सब / लोग (those boys)
Two – दो (two cows)
Three- तीन
Four –चार
a large number of – अत्यधिक संख्या में(a large number of girls)
The majority of –बड़ी संख्या में (बहुमत होना)-(the majority of leaders)
3.Uncountable noun ke pahle use hota hai-
Little – थोडा (small amount ) -(little milk)
A little –थोडी मात्रा में / थोडा बहुत -( a little water)
Less –कम – (less money)
Much –बहुत (अधिक मात्रा में)– ( much oil)
A good deal of – एक अच्छी सोदा (a good deal of petrol)
A great deal of – a large amount of/quantity-(a great deal of sugar)
4. Singular countable noun or Uncountable noun ke pahle use hota hai-
This – यह– (this book, this milk)
That – वह ( that pen, that money)
5. Plural countable noun or Uncountable noun ke pahle use hota hai –
All – सभी-( all books / all money)
A lot of – बहुत सारा /अधिक संख्या-(a lot of apples)
Lots of – बहुत सारे/बहुत मात्रा -(lots of toys/ diesel)
Enough –काफी / उचित -(It is enough)
More – ज्यादा -( more boys / more suger)
Most – अधिकतर / सबसे ज्यादा( most girls/ salt)
Some – कुछ ( some cups / some water)
Such – ऐसा /इतना-(such books /such food)
Plenty of – प्रचुर मात्रा में / बहुतायत-( plenty of apples/plenty of energy
6. Singular/ Plural countable noun or Uncountable noun ke pahle use hota hai-
No – नहीं -(no boy/boys/milk)
Any –कुछ – ( any man/men / water)
Only – मात्र ( only man / men / tea)
Other – दूसरा (other pens, other oil)
Own – अपना/ स्वयं (own book/books/ own milk)
Same – वही-(same things, the same toy, the same toys )
The – (The child / children/ink)
My – मेरा– (my coat/ money
Your – तुम्हारा /तुम्हारी ( your book/milk)
His – उसका ( his book/his milk
Her – उसकी ( her pen / tea
Our – हमारा ( our books/ coffees
Its – इसका / अपना– (The jar is big its lid is loose. The dog is sleeping on its mat.)
Their – उनका/अपना ( their books/milk)
They are doing their work.
